This scene is a reminder of days gone by and future trips away. It's composition is reminiscent of old impressionist paintings, but this scene is thoroughly modern.

When the post-impressionist Georges Surat created “Bathers at Asnières” in 1884 they would never have envisioned it being the inspiration for this shot. Although transported from a Parisian riverside to a beach in Benidorm, the story is the same.
People driven by the heat of the day to cool of the waters.
However, these people have come hundreds of miles to be here to worship the sun, sea, sand and sangria that these holiday hotspots offer.
The european package holiday, brought about from the creation of cheaper, more cost effective air travel in the 1950’s and 1960’s came into its own in the 1970’s with places like Benidorm becoming the place to go to spend your well-deserved summer break.
The shared experience of these breaks from the norm, whether it be a family, friendship groups or groups of people looking for fun in the sun creates lasting memories. Memories that may grow hazy over time, they will always remember, with fondness and warmth.
