It’s a common occurrence, windows act as a barrier to keep inhabitants’ cosy indoors while the cold, rain and wind whistles outside. The window in this shot distorts the world outside creating a cacophony of light and colour.

This seems far from the image conjured by descriptive terms, cold, wet and windy but in this case the shot captures the lights from the docks and a building site that, on a clear night, can be seen from the tenements of Edinburgh’s Salamander Street. A question here is, would the image have been as interesting if it hadn’t been rain soaked? Would it have even captured the imagination of the photographer? Possibly not.
Sometimes slight changes to how you look at something casts a whole new light on things be it a photographic subject or an everyday problem. Maybe taking another look at something, moving your viewpoint or by shining a light on something mundane, you find that beauty exists, even when it’s dark, cold, wet and windy.
